Excellent Cut Diamonds

What’s the difference between an Excellent Cut Diamond and a poorly-cut Diamond? An Excellent Cut Diamond sparkles more, shows beautiful symmetry and even light return, and looks brighter than a poorly-cut stone. Read on to learn more, and make sure your Diamond’s Cut is prioritized- that’s the most important aspect of making a beautiful Ring ????
Excellent Cut Diamonds sparkle more to the naked eye
A Diamond’s main job is to reflect light- to sparkle- which happens when a Diamond is cut to precise geometrical Proportions. You can learn more about Cut precision on this post, steps 5 and 9. But it doesn’t take a mathematician to see the difference between these Diamonds below.

A GIA “Excellent” Cut Diamond looks neat and precise to the naked eye, sparkling brightly.

This is a GIA “Good” Cut Diamond. Notice the lack of symmetry, uneven facets and “flat” sparkle.
Under ASET Scope, Excellent Cut Diamonds are easily recognizable
ASET Scopes were created by the AGS, a Diamond Grading Lab which made extreme advances in measuring light performance and Cut quality, in 2005. The AGS was bought out by the GIA (largest Diamond Grading Lab in the world) in 2022, and ASET Scope evaluation is now starting to gain popularity. Check out an Excellent Cut Diamond versus a poorly-cut Diamond under ASET Scope.

Under Ideal Scope, the difference is also easy to see
Ideal Scopes help judge Symmetry, which may be difficult to pick up on with the naked eye. Check out the difference between these two Diamonds.

What about for fancy-shape (non-Round) Diamonds? Check out this chart.
Check out this awesome brochure, courtesy of the IGI. The IGI pioneered grading for Lab-Grown Diamonds, and now have put together an objective way to evaluate “Cut” on non-Round Diamonds.
