Diamond Color Grades comparison D-K

At what point can you tell the difference between Diamond Color Grades?

It can be very difficult to tell the difference between Diamond Color Grades online. Remember that to optimize your budget on the biggest Diamond, you’ll find to find the lowest Color Grade that looks “white” in your desired Diamond’s shape and Carat Weight.

GIA Color Grade Scale

So, where will you start to see differences between Color Grades? When 2 Diamonds of the same shape, Cut quality and Carat Weight that are graded by the same Laboratory are at least 2 Color Grades apart (“E” versus “G”, “H” versus “J”, etc.).

The difference between Diamonds one Color Grade apart

Take a look at these 2 Lab-Grown Emerald-Cut Diamonds, both IGI Graded. The top one’s “G” Color Grade and the bottom one’s “F” Color. The difference is barely noticeable between these two, and will be even less so after being set on a Ring.

The difference between Diamonds two Color Grades apart

Now take a look at these 2 Diamonds. The top’s a “G” Color and the bottom’s an “E” Color. Both are 1.50 carat IGI Graded Lab-Grown Radiants. Here the difference is a little more noticeable. You won’t see tinges of coloration on the “G” Color if it’s alone, but compared to the “E” Color it’s clear which one is the “whiter” Diamond.

Check out this chart for our recommendations of the best Color Grades based on your stone’s shape and size. For Lab-Grown Diamonds, stay to the Colorless (“D”, “E” and “F” range) if the Diamond’s IGI Graded.
